Where to Eat and Drink on a Patio in Jefferson City, MO

Where to Eat and Drink on a Patio in Jefferson City, MO

The title says it all, right? There are times in these adult lives of ours where we really just need to know the answer to one simple question. Where can I have a drink and eat on a patio?

You’re someone that likes to ride bikes. Or, maybe you think you might like to.  Maybe you’re just curious what it’s all about as you see more and more bikes around town.  That’s understandable as the popularity of cycling has been growing the past few years.  Since Jefferson City is adjacent to the Katy Trail, you may assume that’s where most people are riding their bikes.  While a good number of people ride on the Katy Trail (a surprising amount of folks actually travel in from all over to ride it) there are many other types of riding.  There are even groups that get together to do these rides.

What would jeffcityblog.com be without a great post on the history of our Missouri State Capitol?!

Let us introduce guest contributor, Dana Miller - Assistant Chief Clerk for the Missouri House of Representatives. As the current chair of the Missouri State Capitol Commission, Dana has been a driving force behind the preservation of our capitol. She's here to answer some of our questions about the history and symbolism behind the Capitol and tells us some of her favorite stories from within the Capitol walls. She also gives us an insider look into the reconstruction that is going on right now.

Reservation Worthy Dinners

Reservation Worthy Dinners

"Where should we go to eat?"

A question that we've all spent way too much time trying to figure out.

We thought this wouldn't be a proper city blog if we didn't highlight some of the most-liked restaurants in town and with Valentine's Day right around the corner, we thought we'd start with the "Reservation Worthy." If you're a visitor, this is a solid list of some of Jefferson City's staple restaurants.

Training for LIFE

To keep our January Set the Tone theme going, let’s talk about creating tone, body tone that is. It’s okay, you can laugh! This GO is dedicated to getting out there and taking some healthy cooking classes to help you reach your health and fitness goals for the year. Instead of going out to eat and spending money on food that isn’t healthy, go and learn how to make great meals in your own home. Not only will it help your waistline, but it will save you money. Angela Bax, co-owner of Training for LIFE, let me in on what types of cooking classes she offers and how to make the most out of cooking at home.

Training for LIFE Cooking Class

Angela is a girl after my own heart. Right away we started talking about different documentaries about food and life that we both love to watch on Netflix, books we like to read, and national life-coach gurus we were fans of. I just liked being around her. She has an energy that you can feel from the moment you meet her that lets you know she is a woman on a mission.

Her mission started about 2 years ago with Nick Baker, co-owner of Training for LIFE and well-known, certified personal trainer. Throughout the year of working in the health and fitness industry, they always felt frustration with the fact the people have the tools they need to be well and healthy, but they don’t have the support they need to achieve their goals.

Each year people spend thousands of dollars on products and services related to weight loss, however many people don’t follow through or aren’t sure how to properly use the products to achieve the desired results. They thought, “What’s actually getting them to use the products correctly? What’s actually there to help them get the results their wanting?” What could they offer the Jefferson City community that is different from what is already here? The verdict: In-Home Coaching.

They began their company, Training for LIFE, with the motto Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE). Angela let me know one of the books that helps mold their work and inspire them in their business is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It is one of the books that they encourage their clients to read and try to understand for themselves because of how powerful it can be. For those of you not into reading, no worries! This book was made into a documentary and is currently on Netflix.

When Angela and Nick start with a new client, they are interested in learning more about who they are in order to help the client break down and ultimately grow in each of these four categories:

  1. Nutrition
  2. Fitness
  3. Personal Development
  4. Mindset

They want to, “Teach clients to become the best version of themselves.” Providing classes and educating their clients is a great way to to help them start their journey to being better overall.

Being from Argyle, MO, Angela was used to living off the land eating organic food. It wasn’t trendy, it was just what her family did and how they got their food. As she got older, she started getting into food documentaries and learning how food affects the body and mind. She wanted to share with people how eating right and treating your body properly can give anyone such a great quality of life.

Training for LIFE Cooking Class 2

One of the first classes Angela decided to teach was learning how to meal prep. She found that many people were lost or misinformed when it came to knowing what food was good and healthy. She also found that many people just didn’t cook. She said, “I want people to feel knowledgeable and empowered in the kitchen and cook at home.”

Her cooking classes are all based on the lean and green style. She helps people give a new, healthy twists on recipes they already love. She said, “If you love fried chicken, then let me help you find a way to make a healthier version." She has two cooking classes per month in her home around her 8' farm table that her brother made. All the classes are based around different themes like healthy desserts, skinny cocktails, the many ways to use cauliflower, etc. It doesn’t stop there though! They provide specific nutrition plans, personal training, accountability and motivation, natural energy solutions, and so much more!

Angela’s first class for the year will be Healthy Italian and is on January 23, 2018 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. The class is $25 per person. If you are interested in attending this class, other cooking classes, or learning more about the services Angela and Nick provide, check out their Facebook page!
