Hola, JCMO! We’re here today to give you six easy ways to lend a helping hand during any season. #5 is probably my favorite considering the holiday coming up. Check it out!

  1. Support 1 Million Cups Jeff City
This free, national program founded by the Kauffman Foundation recognized Jeff City as a host city in October of 2017. Meeting weekly, this group of entrepreneurs has been fostering education, connection, and engagement. If you believe that entrepreneurship has positive affects on the city’s economic development and would like to promote and support that, 1 Million Cups is a great place to do so. Each week, they need an event space sponsor and a coffee sponsor. Reach out to Suzanne who handles that at suzanne.luther@yahoo.com.

  2. Volunteer or donate to the United Way of Central Missouri
The United Way of Central Missouri supports 28 agencies in seven different counties. In 2017, 86,992 lives were touched by the United way and its 28 parter agencies. 1 in 3 people in Jefferson City have been helped by the United Way of Central Missouri. Want to get involved? Join the 1,100+ other hard-working volunteers who serve our community every year. Email info@unitedwaycemo.org.

  3. Donate to and shop at Dreams to Reality

Dreams to Reality was established in 2000 by local women in an effort to help disadvantaged women receive appropriate interview and career attire. Items are donated by the community to meet the needs of their clients and the Boutique offers for sale to the general public a wide variety of quality made selections including dresses, jackets, pants, tops, purses belts, scarves, jewelry and formal wear. For more information, call 573-681-WORK (9675).

  4. Volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to “enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens”. The Jefferson City location has a membership of close to 700 boys and girls. It is open weekdays during the school year from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Dinner is provided to Club members M-F. During the summer months, the Club is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information on volunteering, email kcrow@bgcjc.com.

  5. Shop on Smile.amazon.com
As hard as I try to always shop local, there are times when I can’t find exactly what I need. When Amazon is the best choice there’s still a way to help our community at not additional cost to you. Simply type is smile.amazon.com in your web browser where you’d normally type amazon.com and shop as you normally do. At checkout, you’ll choose the charity of your choice and that’ll save to your account. From then on, Amazon will donate .5% back to said charity on all applicable items. This costs you absolutely nothing. All you have to do is remember to type “smile.” before your normal “amazon.com” BOOM!

  6. Be a jeffcityblog.com Contributor
Shameless plug alert! If you find yourself naturally sharing fun tidbits of information to your friends and colleagues about new, fun things to do, being a contributor is a super fun way to share those messages even more. Email us at hello@jeffcityblog.com.
