We expanded our MO Swag tab into to a full-fledged retail store located at 619A E Capitol Avenue.
Crazy right?
When Sarah and I were looking for a place to open a coworking space, we found a location with a front area that used to be a t-shirt shop. Even though we weren’t looking for a retail space, it fit our long-term vision for the blog.
Ding! Ding!
We already have this blog. We already sell merchandise online and at local events. Why not use this already perfect retail space as a store front?!
Secondly, we know so many people that have a side hustle and sell items online or only at local events. With this retail space, we’re able to provide a brick and mortar for them to sell goods at also. It was a win/win for us and other local makers.

If you are walking downtown or just want to stop by, we’re a few steps away from the Missouri State Penitentiary and caddy-corned from our friends at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. With all the foot traffic on Capitol Ave and the hype around the neighborhood, we’re super stoked to have the opportunity to open the doors for local makers. We’re excited to provide an affordable place to sell their items, and for visitors to be able to take a special piece of JCMO home with them.
We have so much talent right here in MId-Missouri. It’s thrilling to be able to meet them all and support them in multiple ways.

It’s also been so fun for us to shop here for gifts. My mom’s birthday gift came from here, I sent items to my brother-in-law and his family who are from MO but now live in Florida. This past weekend, I even stuffed a bunch of my favorite items in a bag for my girlfriend’s wedding shower.
We not only get to give our friends and family great gifts, but we also get to feel the warm fuzzies knowing that we helped support people right here in our community.

We’re transparent on how our vendor agreement works, and since I get asked all the time, I’ll go ahead and share.
We work with our vendors on a 30(us)/70(them) split. Our 30% includes sales tax and credit card processing fees. We also love promoting them on social media and now the blog. In fact, some of our vendors have already been highlighted in our Love for Local series. It’s also a great way for makers to test new products without much risk such as renting or owning their own brick & mortar.
For us, it gives the public a reason to step inside our doors, and it doesn’t hurt that I can walk right outside of my office to get a gift for any occasion.

Everything in the store is made by a local maker or is Missouri related, except for the bottled water and soda in the cooler. I’m mean, no need to reinvent the wheel there, right?
